Vasectomy Worries

good afternoon fellow athletes,

First time user here, forgive my bluntness.

I have a Vasectomy planed in a few weeks, My Doc. has assured me that there will be NO in-ability to train as hard as I use to after recovering from this procedure.
Q. Does anyone disagree with this?

Nope, they are pretty cut and dry(no pun), you should be fine, though you might want to confirm that your hospital is not part of a "Organ for Sale to Highest Bidder" program. I think Livers are going for 200K and Hearts, name your price.

Suggest reading Stephen King's Coma before going in.

Testosterone production (the only thing that I could imagine worrying you) does not change when you get the "sport model".

All they're doing is cutting the tube that lets your little guys free. All other connections to various body systems are maintained.

Yes. I was in pain for a while after my procedure.

I had heard of many men that were able to play golf the same day ... not me.

It was painful to even hold my 2 month old on my chest until nearly a month after the procedure. I was told that in some surgeries this is the case so I just had to live with it for a while.

Now, every once in a while after a good, hard max effort day - I'll get a small pressure type pain that goes away after a day or so but it's not so bad.

I'm not a doctor - but I think the surgeon hit a nerve w/ his cauterizing utensil as he was finishing up the procedure ... don't know for sure and the surgeon wouldn't admit it if he did ... Anyways - just my $.02.

Re: Vasectomy Worries

Residual pain is not unusual, but it should not prevent you from performing the CrossFit WODs (although it may impede other types of workouts).

Definitely don't plan on doing anything for a few days, absolutely nothing! Schedule for a Friday early afternoon... A bag of frozen peas works great too!

Re: Vasectomy Worries

My DH got fixed this summer. He had residual pain for a few weeks - more than he had originally anticipated - but was back at work after the weekend and up to par within a month. Good luck!

Re: Vasectomy Worries

I sat on the couch with an ice pack placed strategically for almost a full week. All that to say it probably depends on exactly what surgery, pain tolerance, and other factors.

You'll know when you're ready to hit the gym. Until that day, you won't want to. I promise you that.
