Training while sick?

Whats the general consensus on this topic, is it a good idea to rest until illness is over or symptoms significantly reduced? Can doing light training aid in the recovery process or can it lead to a slower recovery time? I understand not training if you have a fever but what about cough/congestion/sore throat and similar (in my mind) not too serious symptoms?

Re: Training while sick?

I generally stay away from training while sick. But depending on the severity, I might work on a skill just to keep moving. Look through the exercises and find something you would like to dial in your technique on. Putting a little weight on a bar and practicing perfect form slowly to develop knowing the right feel of a movement won't hamper your recovery but it keeps you progressing. And if you're like me, I get so caught up in having a "good time" on the WOD that I often put off this kind of work/practice. -hub

Re: Training while sick?

Yeah, what is the consensus on this? I woke up with a sore throat yesterday but it disappeared, I did the WOD fine then an hour later it was back. Today its still around and hasn't gone away and I have Michael on deck waiting for me. Should I respect the sore throat and rest/do skill work/work on weaknesses or tackle Michael? My biggest weakness is running though, heh.

Oh, i'm a day behind on WODs btw.

Re: Training while sick?

There have been several similar threads in the past couple of months or so. I'd suggest searching them. They provide a wealth of information and opinions.

Yeah, thanks, this was the first one I found when I searched and I replied here before reading the rest. For anyone else who finds this thread I searched 'sore throat.'

Re: Training while sick?

Just take time off. Your body is already under enough stress when it's sick.
