Hi William, and welcome to CrossFit!
The "WOD" is the "Workout of the Day", and is what you see down the center of the main page at www.crossfit.com. CrossFit is a program of *general* physical preparation, with an emphasis on strength, explosiveness, body control, and cardio-pulmonary conditioning developed in (generally) short bouts of intense effort (although we also do the occasional 5K (or even 10K) run). It won't give you the *specific* skills you need as a boxer, but it will likely prepare your body to acquire those skills. On the left side of the main page, there are links to "What is Fitness?", "Start here!", and the FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions). I'd urge you to read all of those to help understand what we're about, and to decide if CrossFit is for you. If so, give it a try, either with the beginner's workout discussed in the "Start here!" link, or just with an appropriately-scaled WOD. (If you're in shape, it may not take much scaling). |

William, I suggest you read the "what is CrossFit" and "Starting" sections on the main page. You wont get the same results by picking and choosing a few good workouts. The real changes occur as a result of the varied programming incorporating mixed modalities, time schemes and loads. That means doing the met-con, explosive power, strength workouts and skills. A great way to start is by the scaled versions of the WOD available at www.brandxmartialarts.com

metabolic conditioning, the type of workout that elicits a potent "cardio" response from high rep functional strength movements.

Hi William,
I own a boxing club and coach a boxing team. We use CrossFit daily as part of our conditioning. I have found that it has helped my athletes with speed and explosiveness, which translate into punching power. Furthermore it has greatly increased their recovery time which improves the quality of their sparring and of course helps with their fights. I feel that CrossFit training is superior for boxers than the tradition "road work" that most old timers recommend. |
