Trying to weed out the chaff, are we?
No way for me to do 100 rope climbs. I'll be looking for Jeff's buttercup scaled version. L. |

That was no fun, my second painstorm and this one was worse than last. Only managed a single round in 22:08, had therapy yest. which was plyo jumps, sled drags and squat so my legs and hips were already pretty beat before I started. A great challenge though and from here there is only one direction to go.

Michael,
Good effort. I spent the afternoon experimenting with subs for rope climbs. Here's what I came up with. If anyone is interested I can go into some more in depth calculations/experiment results regarding work performed for the variations; otherwise, you will just have to trust me. 50 jumping towel ups using a "1 up 2 down" cadence. This gives a similar distance covered as well as simulating the work required coming down on the rope. I think the best sub has a mark on the towel at max standing reach, grab the towel lower with one hand and when you jump up grab the mark with your "free" hand and pull up to where your face meets your top hand. At the bottom, alternate the grip so each hand gets a play at top and bottom. I can send a video if you like. For the rope climb, I set a mark at 10' and tapped it with a hand; start was from a stand - sometimes jumping sometimes just climbing. My feeling is that the extra effort required to catch yourself on the rope after a "jump" doesn't constitute a "cheat" since the grip is going to be tested fairly well... I tried 4 different sets of 10 ascents on the rope and various reps/techniques on the jumping rope ups. This is the best I could do. I think it has the potential to level the playing field. BTW wear long trousers and a shirt is you use the wrap technique with your legs. Don't slide down the rope, go down hand over hand (Kempie  ) Any one else with something better? I am open to suggestions Gordo |

The.Worst.Ever
I found this one the hardest PainStorms yet..even harder than the Beck Burpees incident. When I go to the end of the 30 pull ups in the 3rd set I told Jackie that I quit..something I have never done before. But, thanks to Jackie, I managed to finish the 3rd set. Made our modifications and hit it today before I inflict it on everyone else tomorrow. 30 Pull ups 50 Box Jumps 24 inch 20 Hand over hand Kettlebell Pulls with 2 24kg kb's tied to the end of the rope 50 Walking Lunges 30 Burpees 50 Tuck Jump 20 Sit ups 50 Squats 10 HSPU's Time - 1 hour 11 mins |

Boots and Utes
4 rounds in 1:41 I hit the 3 round mark at 1:13 MU's were all kipping ("rudimentary" ala CF North) Only mod was on HSPU - went down to 3" camera case vice to the ground. My shoulder would not have tolerated the full depth coupled with the MU's. Pretty bad when you can't even finish your own workout! I may have been able to tackle the 5th round, but I don't think I would have been able climb up to get the rope and rings out of the tree. Kempie and I had excellent weather in the park (15 C, overcast and a nice breeze) so that probably saved us! I don't think I could have done this in the desert. To all who even attempted this beast, well done. Looking forward to next month's already! Gordo |

1:01 for one round. !!!
With subs for rope climbs and muscle ups-- pulled a log tied to a rope, 5 x 40' = 200 feet. Would have pulled more but it wa harder than I thought. 30+30 pull ups and dips for m/u. Couple of pics here: http://laurarcrossfit.blogspot.com/2...titutions.html |
