Another 1st MU thread!

Hey people,

thanks to watching the Rob Miller muscleup vids 4 times each this morning, I managed to smash out a couple for the first time ever!

Not the prettiest things ever, but its only the beginning.

Any tips on slowing down the drop down from the dip back to the hang?

thanks heaps CF.

Let your hands slip down the rings back into false grip position. Squeeze your scapular retractors and slowly let them protract through the transition. It will be hard if you don't have the strength to do a deadhang, but you'll get used to it.

Re: Another 1st MU thread!

so when we do a MU, we dont just drop on the way down? I've been wonderin about this and when i did the 30 MU WOD i dropped after getting to the top of the MU. Am i supposed to lower myself?

About on the same level that you should lower a deadlift.

Re: Another 1st MU thread!

I would think that just dropping from the top of the MU would wreak havoc on your grip, arms and shoulders.

After I got my first MU, I always lowered myself down. The part I had a little trouble controlling was from the bottom of the dip after lowering back down to the hang. That beat my elbows up a bit.

Re: Another 1st MU thread!

I think he meant dropping off the rings like the guy who did 1 every 9 seconds did in the vid (or like I did in my most recent 30 MUs vid). Basically it eliminates the eccentric which takes away small bit of the work.

I would suggest learning to control the eccentric and re-false grip on the way down.... then once you get it you can choose not to do it if you want.
