What are your collective thoughts on oat bran? Is it better than whole wheat or basically the same/worse?

ive always got the impression from around here that oatmeals alright...i looked all through the paleo diet book and all cordain says about oats is that theyre restricted.....however everwhere else i read the consensus is that they are an excellent carbohydrate source, and that they have minimal effect on insulin levels.

this is just what ive read though, i could be wrong though, please correct me

Slow-clook, steel-cut oatmeal (groats) has a lower glycemic index than the instant type, so it's better to eat it from that standpoint. Plus, you get gamma linoleic acid (GLA) from it. Sears recommends folks trying to adhere to the Zone get a few bowls a week to go with the fish oil. Plus, it's dirt cheap and tastes really good.
