sprawl demo/video
Anybody know of a video where I can see a demo of how a sprawl should be done as a conditioning exercise?
Thanks! |

Re: sprawl demo/video
like this? wfs This can of course be done faster, and with multiple quick sprawls before the counter-shot. This can also be done with a partner (wfs).
I've also seen people sprawling, then getting up to hit a heavy bag with a quick combination. Either way, it is good to practice the habit of counter attacking after a sprawl. Are you sprawling for the sake of sprawling, or do you have another goal in mind? I'm a wrestling coach. |

Unfortunately, I'm not a wrestler/fighter, so I am just asking for the sake of sprawling.
Is it a vital component of the sprawl movement to turn to one side when dropping down? That's just the kind of video I was looking for btw. Thanks! |

Re: sprawl demo/video
You turn to the side when it helps create more distance between the leg being attacked and the opponent. Also, often after you sprawl you will drive one of your hips into the opponent in order force him to extend his body in order maintain a hold of you leg. Once he is extended it is easier to break his grip. See here (wfs). So it's best if you can get your hips into an advantageous position as you sprawl.
There's some good sprawls and take down defense in this match (wfs) between two multiple gold medal winners. John Smith is probably the best ever at scoring after his opponent has sprawled, and his single leg defense is uncanny as well. |
