Post Evolution of the Crossfit Athlete

Some of you might be interested in an article i put together on how the average Top 10 Crossfit Games finisher has changed in the last few years.

Now i just need to update it with this year's results.

"In terms of strength, specifically Olympic Lifting numbers, the improvements are nothing short of remarkable. A 30lb increase in the max Clean and Jerk and over 43lb worth of improvement in the Snatch. Remember that this is the average for the TOP 10 FINISHERS, not your Average Joe, or the rest of the pack. These guys were already the best in the world, and are still improving at a huge rate!"

How long do you think it will continue?

Re: Evolution of the Crossfit Athlete

It will continue as long as the events require that more Olympic lifting skill is needed. What you're seeing is adaptation to the skills that the Games season is testing. The big difference of course being that all these guys now know how to do the snatch and clean & jerk with something at least very close to national-level technique (we did still see some ugly power clean attempts on the ladder this year but that was the exception and not the rule) as opposed to the pressed-out, starfished stuff that was prevalent in the early incarnations of the Games. I'd almost be willing to bet that improvement with respect to squat, deadlift, bench, press or things like 400m/5k run or 500m/2000m row hasn't been nearly that pronounced.
