Question on flooring

Our affiliate should be up and running in the next couple weeks, couldn't be more excited.

I do have a question for everyone. I bought about 2000 sq feet worth of 4 x 6 mats. Any recommendations on whether or not to put the mats under our rig? I have a 3800 sq ft facility and just couldn't justify buying flooring for the whole thing initially.

Any thoughts or recommendations would be greatly appreciate.

Re: Question on flooring

Having been to a competition where someone was using a plyo-box on a bare concrete (non-matted) floor to reach the pullup bar and ended up missing/kicking out the plyo-box, landing back first on the edge of the box, resulting in a fractured vertebrae, I would absolutely not consider not having mats under my pullup rig.

Re: Question on flooring

Quite simple, if they need something to stand on, have them use the j hooks as a step. Also have different heights on your rig. Those that are short will migrate to short, tall to tall.

Re: Question on flooring

Safety first. Most J-cups on rigs rotate away from center... I wouldn't have people stepping on them.

There is 1/4" matting that is much cheaper and you can buy in large rolls that I have seen at some gyms lately. They even use it as the main lifting surface surprisingly. You might also consider artificial turf, which I seem to remember being fairly cheap last time I looked. Either of these might be a good compromise since it's not likely heavy weights will be dropped near the pull-up rig often (other than the occasional ditched squat), although I wouldn't lift on turf.

Re: Question on flooring

i would mat under the rig for sure. it looks better and safety wise is better. since the directions said to not put rig over mat we just cut holes in the 6 mats that had the support beams so the rig could screw into the ground.

Re: Question on flooring

Definitely put under rig. People are in the air. They can fall. Need some sort of padding to land on other than concrete.

Re: Question on flooring

Yes, put mats under your rig. Get a T-Square, some chalk, and a box knife and you can make them fit perfectly.
