Overhead Squat to Face Plant

I have resisted doing front squats and especially overhead squats because squatting with any weight in front or above me tends to pull me forward. Today, after my usual back squats, I tried OH with empty bumbbell bars, no weight. As I began to move lower, I could feel my hands and arms start to tilt forward. Is this a flexibility issue? Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Kev

Also, I see you're in Vancouver. Go check out one of the CrossFit Affiliates in town. I know there are 3 but I've only trained with the owners of 2 of them, www.crossfit.ca and http://www.crossfitsouthsurrey.typepad.com/ (WFS from what I've seen)

Great guys, great coaching. They will be able to help you out.

Thanks guys...that about explains it. I'm off to a nearby affiliate on Friday, and the doorway idea below looks ingenious too.

Best to all,
Kev

Re: Overhead Squat to Face Plant

Yep--for weeks I did the warmup with a broom stick over my head, not realizing how far forward it was coming; would have been totally unfeasible with weight. Tried it once in a doorway and realized how off I'd been. Still maybe not completely ready for weight, but at least that stick is above my feet now.
