oranges

The Zone book states oranges as a favorable source of carbs, but also states oranges as having a glycemic index between 50% and 80%. Does this mean I should stay away from oranges and replace them with apples following workouts and before bed since raised insulin levels inhibit the release of growth hormone?

Re: oranges

Yeah I still don't know whats considered a good glycemic index. I think oranges are good cause I feel good whenever I eat them. So if I feel good I do it.

Re: oranges

According to nutritiondata, an orange has a glycemic load of 5, which isn't exactly high.

I'm fairly sensitive to high-glycemic carbs and I eat oranges (well, usually 2/day) with no ill effects.

Re: oranges

Oranges are a great fruit to eat for paleo or zone or both style eating.

They are in the list of favorable carbs for The Zone.

Re: oranges

I always worry about these threads as I think someone who I feel is an "expert", and opinion I value is going to tell me that I shouldnt eat something, and I was afraid I was going to have to give up oranges. Ive already given up ice cream and cookies, so if someone was going to say oranges were bad, I was just going to give up altogether.
