Hi folks,

due to my current schedule, I am going to have to start doing my workouts in the AM, around 6.00 am, what would you folks suggest as far as nutrition goes?

Would it be a good idea for me to eat a small meal before the workout, or after? I was thinking that eating a small breakfast, before working out may be risky due to me possibly puking it staright back up, then again, working out after having say 6 hours sleep and zero nutrition in that time, would that be detrimental?

Your thoughts and ideas are always welcome folks!

It's probably not what you were looking for but the answer is a combination of:

1) Try both and see what happens
2) Depends on the WOD
3) Depends on quality of sleep
4) Depends on hydration

There doesn't seem to be a rule. Becaues of the random availability of time, I have worked out fasted and with food. Personally, I need a minimum of 2 hours without food for a met-con WOD. A 12 hour fast (overnight) doesn't seem to affect performance FOR ME.

Your results may vary.

I've had good success with WODs in the morning on an empty stomach. I now do AM WODS 2 days a week. It's a little tough getting motivated to begin the warm-up that early, but once that's over - I'm ready.

Beev,(I love that)
I do the vast majority of my WOD's at 6:30A. I get a glass of water, a cup of joe and start slowly, picking up speed thru the course of the warm up (standard CF 3 rds, 10 reps ea.). A little hot salsa music and I'm off. I go with a power shake, or oatmeal with fruit or sometimes eggs w/a bunch of stuff in 'em after, depends on what I'm in the mood for.

Try some stuff. 5 or 6 workouts a week you'll know pretty quick.

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday I wake at 4:00am. I have a large mug of coffee and some water and by 5:00am I have started my warmup. It works great for me. Post workout shake (only until I use up left over supplements... I'm otherwise paleo) at 6:00am and a full breakfast around 6:45am.
