So I've been a member here for a while, lurking once in a while, and all the time thinking, eh, this crossfit stuff is pretty cool, but I can do some of it, so whatever. I had looked at the exercises and did some of them, but never did a wod. I finally did my first WOD yesterday (Thursday) and realized how unbelievably wrong I was. I got destronyed by that workout, and I've since watched most of the videos of other workouts, and I'm just astonished. I don't think I've ever been as humbled by a workout, and then, I see people posting times like 8 minutes and such. Holy crap! It took me over a half hour! I've realized how far I have to go, but I think I'm sufficiently addicted, so I can't wait, and I'm looking forward to my front squats today!

Hey Grant! I agree...omg, these things can kill you. My suggestion...build up to it. Go to the Forums at Brand X and start on the Puppies level. I know that sounds a little baby-ish, but you will see that starting there will give you the confidence to keep going. And YES, you will still be sore after those workouts. Just my opinion, but people unwilling to scale things back at the start are setting themselves up for hurt, pain, burn-out, and injury.

I hope this bit o' beginner's wisdom helps. You will eventually start looking like those studs and stud-ettes in the videos.

I too am a beginner (started in Mar.). If you want to see what I am doing in my training, see my blog.

Oh, and another thing. Doesn't Rockford have a CrossFit affiliate. Join them! I'm sure they'd let you try it out once or twice before needing to make a commitment.

Thanks for the welcome! I've contacted Dan Colson at Crossfit Rockford, and I think I may stop by for their Saturday morning class tomorrow, to see how I like it. Just did my front squats for the day, I love it! thanks for the link to Brand X, those workouts look much more realistic for the moment, I don't want to over train or kill myself.

Top right of the FAQ page; on the list of affiliates on the right column of the main page; on the state-sorted list on the Affiliate page (they're in California).

The humbling aspect of Crossfit is one of the principle benefits. Welcome to your new life, enjoy!
