Re: HOW to make a tire sled

I've made a few tires using a 1/2 inch Lag bolt with an eyelet on it. Just drill a hole through the tire(s) right on the tread, then push the lag bolt through it, slap a large washer over the bolt on the inside of the tire, screw on a nut and Bob's your uncle. The eyelet is handy because you can hook onto it with a carabiner, or run the rope through it, etc. I've got a few pics I can send if you need. Making them this way helps avoid dragging the rope underneath the tire, which chews it up pretty quickly...I've already had a number of ropes wear out and break when used by people who were overly enthusiastic while pulling them and let the rope slide under the tire during turns.

Chris nailed it, the one thing I do different is I put a hardwood block 2"x6"x8", between the large washer and the tire. It spreads out the pressure and makes it last longer. You can hit the scrap bin at Home Depot and get it for a dollar or two.
