healthiest liquid for protein shake?

For convenience sake, I usually make a protein shake before work consisting of whey protein powder, blueberries, banana, and almond butter. I am not sure which is healthier between skim milk, soy milk, or kefir. Curious what other people think or have other suggestions. Thanks

Depends on you, your goals and the diet you follow, if you follow one.

Whole Milk is better then Skim.

Soy Milk is not milk, it's the juice of a bean, being marketed as a healthful alternative to milk(if you believe that, PM me, as I have some Ocean Front Property that I'm trying to sell),

Kefir, now you're talking (as long as you make your own. Any thing store bought is not the Kefir and the container costs more then the product.

Finally, consider the fact that quite a few people do not use or need a PWO before they workout, and many eat, get this, Real Food, after they train.

Just my not humble two cents.

Happy Sunday

Chow On.

i use coconut milk, but not for PWO. i almost always have a smoothie for breakfast. i normally use all paleo foods except for my protein powder, which is whey, but you can make a paleo one with hemp protein which is really good too.

Re: healthiest liquid for protein shake?

Jay,

Can you explain why Whole Milk is better than Skim?

Any opinions on Rice Milk?

Thanks

Re: healthiest liquid for protein shake?

I use almond milk, but only the unsweetened kind. I'm just not a big fan of most dairy. (and yes, I know that Whey is dairy derived)

Scott;

Good question.

While I won't go into all the messy details, a little research (google), will find you tons of info on why the good fat in milk is good for you. Good fats are good, whether in meats, oil, butter, eggs, where ever, but the bad fats are very bad, i.e trans fat and Hydrogenated Oils.

So, if I'm going to have milk, ice cream, mayo, sour cream, great cheese, eggs, what ever, I want the real thing, the best I can find, grown and raised as close to my house and LEAST processed as possible.

Low fat, fat free, is all b/s and not good for the body, as I'm sure you're aware of.

FAT IS WHERE IT'S AT. IF IN DOUBT, DUMP THE CARBS, UP THE FAT.

Post that around the house and at your office, you'll soon be a legend!

Thats my answer and I'm sticking to it.

Just go with what you prefer. Different people can find 200 reasons why you shouldn't have any of the choices you mentioned, don't get caught up in the minutia of things.
