Where do you get your nuts?

=D

silly question, i know.

So i was at costco the other day and was looking for some healthy nuts to purchase, however, i could only find one kind of nuts in a big plastic container.

I will love to find a place where i can buy them in bulk, and also have a variety of them at any given time so i can eat some walnuts, and then almonds, and switch back and forth.

Costo only has one kind (they do have 1 or 2 others, but those are either salted or sweetened)

I'm sure i can find a variety of them at trader joe's or whole foods, but then it's going to be real expensive.

Re: Where do you get your nuts?

Trader Joe's is great because you can get a wide variety of nuts raw. They don't have all that added salt.

The prices are not that bad...

Regarding nuts. There was an interesting program on TV the other night about all the heavy metals in nuts (amongst other things). Pistachios and cashews, also dates. Cadmium and lead for starters. So make sure you get your nuts from a clean source. I missed the program but I daresay China figures in it, not sure where else.

Re: Where do you get your nuts?

There's a local whole foods store (NOT "Whole Foods" the chain) in my area that sells organic nuts in bulk. I've tried getting nuts at Wal-Mart or Publix, but they're almost always salted.

I get mine from Costco. Ask to make sure you didn't miss them, which is very possible in their warehouse. They have both almonds and pecans in 5 lb. bags in my local store. Both are sold raw.

Costco.

They have raw, unflavored Walnuts (white), almonds, pine nuts, brazil nuts, macadamia nuts, pecans, and pine nuts.

They aren't too expensive either. In Hawaii we get 3 lbs of walnuts for about 13 dollars.

Re: Where do you get your nuts?

I just picked up two three pound bags of walnuts, unsalted from costco yesterday. They had those and pecans that were in raw form.

Nut Bar, a pretty large distributor of, well, nuts (hence the name) is about 2 miles from my house, their factory has a storefront and you can buy a ton of stuff (like 5 lb bags of macadamia nuts ) Though I find if I don't eat macadamia nuts in a certain amount of time, they start to taste weird.

I just got a tip from a fellow crossfitter about a 2lb bag at Sam's. Went and picked it up. Great. Unsalted cashews, almonds, macadamias, and a couple others. I can't remember the other two now. $10, that's great.
