I had the same issue but found a few methods that work when they get smelly.

-Seal them in a ziplock bag and toss into the freezer for a few days.
-On nice hot summer days I park my car int eh drive facing the sun, put my sleeves on the windshield and hold them down with the wipers...turning once.

Stank isn't an issue now.
