How did you guys increase your pullups reps?

Hello!

This is my first post/thread, and I am really having difficulties to increase the amount of my pullups reps. I started crossfit about a week ago maybe but I have been lifting weight for over a year just more bodybuilding style.

But there is alot of talk about rest and that you can't overtrain and **** like that in bodybuilding and that isn't just my thing. Crossfit was exactly the style that I was looking for and I am glad that I found it.

And my goal is to get as strong as possible, starting with increasing pullups reps :P

Thanks!

I'm going to venture an opinion here that the best way to increase pullup reps is to do more pullups.

Depends on, If I just started working out maybe 6-8 and if my heart rate is up and I am really tired then 3-5.

Well it isn't that easy, I am really trying but I just can't do more.
I'll try to explain my best down here:

Let's say that you are squatting 50kg, you did 30reps and then stopped, you could probably have done 40 or even 50 but you stopped at 30 reps because you got too much lactic acid and you just stopped. (This isn't my problem)

Let's say you can deadlift 120kg for 10 reps. Now you want to try to max 400kg at 1 rep, it is not just possible, even if you try you won't get it up, this is my problem, I am struggling to get my last rep for like 7-8sec but I just can't do more pullups.

Hope you understand.

Re: How did you guys increase your pullups reps?

well i used a simple program:
week 1: 1 pullup on the minute for 10 mins
week 2: 2 pullups on the minute for 10 mins
and so on. no progression until the number of pullups on the minute is achieved.

I also have a bar over my kitchen door and try to do a pullup or two each time i go into the kitchen:

Ok I still cannot do young mens/womens numbers of pullups but can do enough to have RXd a PB on Grace this week.. 10 round + 6 pull ups which for me is great. Did all my pullups unbroken and strict as i cannot kip.

My point being that it is applicable to all ages..it just take committment to that daily work. there is no secret it just take a sensible approach and repitition.

cheers

Helen

Re: How did you guys increase your pullups reps?

I'm assuming you're only doing strict pull ups at the moment?

My two cents:
1) work on kipping. There are lots of videos/lessons around the crossfit site and the wider internet.
2) Do CF WODs. There are lots of pull ups involved. Do as many as you can (strict or kipping) - in a row, or take small breaks. Then when you can't do any more, do negatives

Yes, that's the program. It works great as long as you stick with it. If you can't start with 6 pull-ups you can always move the numbers down.
