WOD enough?

I have been crossfitting for about two months now. For the past seven or so years I have strength trained. I played football all through high school and the majority of my time at college. I would like to maintain or increase both my strength and size. My question is, are the WOD on the main crossfit site enough for my goals? Sometimes I don't feel... "Fullfilled"... after a WOD, like I didn't get enough work in. And believe me, I bust my A$$ to get the best times possible.

Any answers?

Re: WOD enough?

More work doesn't always equal more results. CF is about quality, not necessarily quantity...adding too much training volume and producing an amount of stress that you can't recover from leads to overtraining. You don't get stronger/faster from working out, you get stronger/faster from recovering from workouts.

That being said, if you've been doing the CF.com workouts for long enough, seeing consistent progress, and think you can handle more volume, give it a shot. What are your current numbers like and what are your goals? Getting bigger and stronger isn't very specific, but if those are your general goals then something like CFWF/CFSB/MEBB/heavy hybrids are probably a better fit than CF.com.

Re: WOD enough?

Remember that some days are easier than others for a reason, usually the next day is hard. But if you can take it, add in extra work if you want.

Is it enough? For some yes, for others no.

Re: WOD enough?

If you want to increase strength and size, and assuming you are already fairly big and strong, then I would suggested 1-2 strength or power movements before the WOD.

Re: WOD enough?

Great. Thank you for all the feedback.

I did a 1-1-1-1-1-1-1 Clean and Jerk today after my warm-up and before "annie". I was dead tired but it felt great.

Re: WOD enough?

Not bad, how much did you use?

You might want to check out CFSB or CFFB, or simply add strength work 2-4 times a week before wods.

+1 for CF Football. We use their model for our programming.

Re: WOD enough?

You know, hand models are completely different from the face and body boys.

If you decide to add strength work before CF WODs, you might want to stay a cycle behind so you don't do an exercise one day that shows up the next. For example: you do heavy deadlifts one day, and then something like Diane or Joshua shows up the next day. I know CF is all about constantly varied, and sometimes we wind up doing the same movements two days in a row, but for recovery and peformance, it would be better to stay a cycle behind.
