hi,
do you take short rest between exercises or try to perform them back to back ? I'm saying that : when it says 21-15-9, do you take a rest after completing first 21 round? if yes, how much? |

The goal when shooting for time seems to be little or no rest. It all depends on your level of fitness.

"You're not going to lose those last twenty pounds by resting and trying to catch your breath." - me last night to an ex-football player trying to get back in shape. He apparenly thought that it made sense to rest during a workout consisting of 3 rounds for time of 20 1.5 pood kettlebell swings and 20 burpees.
Seriously though, on workouts like Fran you just have to kill yourself and try to get it done as quickly as possible. Resting just prolongs the torture. Besides, you can always catch your breath on the pullups. |

Also if you absolutely HAVE to rest, do it after at least attempting to start the next round, since the thrusters are a 'rest' for the pullups, and vice versa during Fran for example.
Sometimes you can convince yourself to keep going, other times the muscles are just too burnt out to obey the brain. |

As far as how much rest, as little and as short a rest as needed for the burning to go and the muscles to get back to work. I try to make little deals with myself like "five deep breaths, then back at it" to overcome the mental factor, which always sides with comfort and takes longer.

James, five deep breathes is what keeps me in the game. But to your point above that do start the next movement before you rest. I suck air til my lips turn blue on Fran, but I can always walk over and push out 5 or 10 pullups or thrusters after finishing a round of the other.
