Just got word that Gym&Fitness stock of GarageGym bumpers are due to arrive in the first week of August, with shipping most likely within a week of that.

Re: Recommended barbell in Australia

Anybody had any experience with the 'Apollo' brand bumper plates from Nordic Fitness in Perth?
They're reasonably priced, with 'USA' on them... not that this necessarily means they were made there, I know....

Re: Recommended barbell in Australia

from memory there's a couple down at the cell - they work fine but don't have a metal insert so they can be pretty sticky getting on to the bar (if that makes sense)... however that also means they don't budge much

i haven't used them extensively though

Re: Recommended barbell in Australia

Hey guys. I picked up my Garage Gym bumpers yesterday. I'll post again in a week or two once I've given them a good workout.

Also, the Gym and Fitness guys said the GG med balls will hit Australia soon and they will also be getting GG oly bars as well.

Re: Recommended barbell in Australia

hey guys...

I work out at Southern Crossfit and we've just got a large shipment of bumper plates from Neil Scholtz from Ballistix Fitness..

I've been using them for about two weeks now (first wod - crossfit total!! =) )

heaps of bounce when you drop them, will keep everyone posted on longer term things (rubber wear, brass ring deformation)

Was that imported direct from US? Or is Ballistix Fitness also in Oz. Quick google just showed US site.

Cheers,
Jeremy

Re: Recommended barbell in Australia

Hoping someone knows a gym, hardcore fitness store or similar where I can buy athletics chalk in the western suburbs of melbourne. So far zero luck, and it seems that online I'd have to go through kettlebells.com.au to find it.

At this point I'd take anywhere vaguely west of melb city...

p.s. alternately, are there any any climbing chalks that are just chalk, and not "100% magnesium carbonate, no additives" "with a safe drying agent added"?

Re: Recommended barbell in Australia

Thanks for the advice lads - my garage gym bumpers arrived Friday arvo from gymandfitness.

They are very solid looking units - will keep you posted on how they wear.

Also got body maker free standing squat stands (again pretty solid.)

Finally got a 1500lb Oly bar with thrust bearings for a very good price.

One note: there was a fair bit of flaking/corrosion on the inside collar of the bar's thrust bearings when it arrived. Not a big enough issue for me to raise cos I am just going to hammer the buggery out of the bar anyway but thought people should know beforehand if they are expecting immaculate looking condition equipment for such cheap $.

Have to say shipping from gymandfitness was prompt and communication was good.

All in all I'm a very happy camper.
