Thinking of Joining College Powerlifting Team

I go to UTSA im thinking of joining there power lifting team cause i figure why not ya know, CF and SS has put me close to what they ask for qualifying lifts...heres there website its pretty unoffical...tell me what you guys think.... http://www.myspace.com/utsapowerlifting

Also there part of the "USA power lifting federation" and this is the lift requirements for nationals

http://www.usapowerlifting.com/lifterscorner/qts.shtml

note that i am about 165...notice how the weight classes are complete crap for me....i gain 17 pounds i only have to lift 50 pounds more....i drop 17 pounds i lift a 105 less....im kinda in a crap weight class

But ya just seeing what you guys thought.... i really just wanna join so i can use the schools athletics gym and not the school normal gym where i have people walking on my oly pad as im doing cleans....im goina kill someone one day doing it

i would say go for it! nothing like some competition to get you motivated to set the bar higher.

Andrew...no Weightlifting team on campus? All that benching and partial squatting may get to you.

Re: Thinking of Joining College Powerlifting Team

I don't see why you would squat high after becoming a powerlifter unless you immediately start using a suit. 1200 unequipped is very good for someone at your weight and height - what are your lifts?

Re: Thinking of Joining College Powerlifting Team

I don't think benching is such a bad lift as long as you don't overdo it and walk around asking people how much they bench. It can give you massive upper body strength. My Dad benched 375, believe me he was stroooong.

Those are certainly solid lifts. Goals aren't meant to be easy or certain. Keep up the good work.

Jason, I agree with that aswell but I only had time to address the silliest part of Kevin's post.
