So I decided to test out my dad's new C2 (that I convinced him to buy, I still don't have one) on a 500m.

Result was 1'41", and that was with a start that was a bit overzealous (my butt lifted up and off the seat, requiring a reset) and the screws from the old-style handles not fully screwed in (thus each pull ended with two nuts banging against my stomach).

Not bad. Wish I would have grown up in an area with crew.

I love rowing.

Anyone know if a long torso is a good build for rowing?

Awesome work, you'll be sub 1:30 in no time!

I don't know if a long torso helps, but being taller/heavier in general definitely plays a role.

Thanks everybody!

I'm thinking I'm going to incorporate the short interval WODs from the C2 site into my Sunday metcon workout (basically after a hilly 2.5 mile run/walk, with a big breakfast after both workouts are completed).

I still have to mess around with the damper settings and stroke rate and all the other things...

Should be fun!

c-2 web site has a recommended damper setting based on body weight.
crossfit recommends between 3 and 4.

Nice pulling Garrett. When I first got my rower I did a 1:55 or so on my first 500m attempt. A couple of years later I'm down to 1:33.7 and should get lower than that real soon. Looking forward to hearing you break 1:30!

Forgot to mention, nice job! I have to test my 500m soon. Good luck with sub-1:30, it's one of my goals also.

Garrett-

I'm also curious if a long torso helps. I've heard it does, along with long arms. And I think it makes sense that you'd get more stroke out of your hip extension if your torso were longer.

Good luck with rowing. I've found the recent c2 articles priceless in helping me realize what I've been doing wrong, and in getting my times down.
