"Chipper" or "hopper" workouts are metcon workouts involving numerous exercises, such as the Filthy Fifty, Dirty Thirty, or some other nasty ones I have erased from my memory banks. The thought, as I was told, was you put something in one end and see what comes out the other end, much like a wood chipper....which is usually about how we feel when it's over...
Starting product=happy, clean, dry, and full of energy... finished product=beat down, soaking, wheezing, woozy, yet definitely fitter... |

Hopper style WOD is just one workout pulled out of a hopper - so yes, randomly chosen. Generally comes up in discussions of fitness where an athlete with a broader fitness will be able to perform well at a wide range of physical challenges.
