Re: What are you reading?

Once I finish State of Fear I will have read all of Michael Crichtons books. Top 3 authors for me.
Before that I read 2001: A Space Odyssey and all the sequels, Arthur C. Clark was way ahead of his time.
Other favorite authors are Frank Herbert, Harry Turtledove and Robert Heinlin.

All these people reading serious novels, I can't do it, science fiction is about all I can read for some reason.

Oh man I love Harry Turtledove. His world war series with the aliens was fantastic, but it felt unfinished. I would love for him to continue that story. I also loved the series that started with the south winning the civil war and then continued onto WWI with the north and south on opposite sides.

+1 for david sedaris!! I think it really helps to hear him read at least one of his stories at some point, then you'll have his voice in your head everytime you read him (which totally adds to the experience).

Re: What are you reading?

I have a CD of Sedaris reading some of his stuff, and just telling stories, and it is a scream. Permenant on my IPod.

I also browse "I'm a Lebowski, You're a Lebowski" and "Schott's Miscellany" constantly.

Re: What are you reading?

Not sure if this book even exists, but my father in law told me about a book which told the story of Japanese soldiers on Guam and other Pacific Islands that never surrendered during/after WWII. I have been unable to find a title anywhere on the web by searching, wonder if any of you have heard/read of a book like this?

I feel that King is a talented writer that is past his prime. He wrote a few excellent episodes of the Dark Tower series when he was still quite good, but his decline (and age, and an accident) overtook him and he finished the series quickly and haphazardly out of fear he would die with it unresolved.

I hope that some other writer picks up the series immediately after Wizard and Glass and re-writes the last three novels as if King's last three never saw the light of day.

Even then, Wizard and Glass has dizzying highs (the entire flashback) and stupid lows (the Wizard of Oz crap).

I did not read Thirteen, but Altered Carbon is awesome. However, the sequel, Broken Angels, is much worse than Altered Carbon.

Re: What are you reading?

"Kop" and "Ex-Kop" by Warren Hammond are also two very good science fiction/mystery-thriller books.
