Re: Fish Oil Recomendation
Most likely, I will be flamed for this, but here it is...
Personally, I saw a difference in my skin (mostly texture). I used to have soft spots between the glute and hamstring area, stubborn grey fat mostly, and it improved after a good while on a high dosage of fish oil (in conjunction with proper diet). Also, I am mentally sharper. I am a student and am writing a thesis right now... I see a huge difference in my ability to focus and analyze. My performance in the gym has improved a lot since taking a higher dosage of Fish Oils. Now, with that said, I am not saying that just because I take a high dosage of fish oils, my performance will SOAR in the gym. I think performance is attributed to a lot of factors...however, I do think that Fish Oils can help. Also, I just feel better. I recover quickly from the gym, etc. My husband has Crohn's Disease and swears by Fish Oils. Since taking high doses, he has not had an attack. In conjuction with eating for preventative measures against this disease and all else...I think the fish oils make a difference. Just saying....lol. I buy into the whole omega-3 deal. I admit I drink the Kool aid. Interesting article on Fish Oils ---> warning: Content written by Robb Wolf (for all those in disagreement with Robb Wolf out there) http://*************/?p=466. Re: Fish Oil Recomendation
i saw thicker hair growth and cleaner skin. One of my co workers that i forced him to take fish oil for a super super bad case of ecezma... he sees less skin flaking and less crust formation on his skin during flare ups.
another friend now taking fish oil at the 5 grams mark is having less back pain... greyhound bus driver so its a life changing event to be able to drive and not have shooting pains. |

Re: Fish Oil Recomendation
Frank, thanks for the info. We've been eating primarily GFB, fish and chicken. Also a fair amount of nuts. I should probably do some analysis and see where my Omega 3-6 ratio is and dose with fish oil accordingly.

1998-07-01 JTT – Fish Oil Supplementation Shows No Adverse Effects With Warfarin Bender NK, Kraynak MA, Chiquette E, et al. Effects of Marine Fish Oils on the Anticoagulation Status of Patients Receiving Chronic Warfarin Therapy. J Thromb Thrombolysis. 1998;5(3):257-261. The purpose of this placebo-controlled, randomized, double-blinded, parallel study was to determine the existence and magnitude of effect of various doses of fish oil supplements on International Normalized Ratio (INR) determinations in patients receiving chronic warfarin therapy. Patients from anticoagulation clinics from both the Brady Green Community Health Center and Audie L. Murphy Veterans Administration in San Antonio, Texas were enrolled in the study. The enrolled subjects included 5 males and 11 females, all of whom were receiving chronic warfarin therapy for indications requiring oral anticoagulation. All enrolled patients underwent a 4-week placebo monitoring period in which INRs were determined on a weekly basis. If the INRs were found to be stable, patients were randomized to receive a 4-week treatment period of either placebo capsules (n = 6), 3 grams of fish oil daily (n = 5), or 6 grams of fish oil daily (n = 5). Patients were followed on a twice-weekly basis for INR determinations and adverse reactions. Five patients were discontinued from the study due to noncompliance (2) and unstable INRs (3). There was no statistically significant difference in INRs between the placebo lead-in and treatment period within each group (P = 0.82). There was also no difference in INRs found between groups (P= 0.41). One bruising episode was reported, yet no major bleeding episodes were observed during the study. Fish oil supplementation in doses of 3-6 grams per day does not seem to create a statistically significant effect on the anticoagulation status of patients receiving chronic warfarin therapy. |
