(Searched board - believe this to be a new question)

I have the opportunity to buy a used Concept 2 Model C erg that seems to be in reasonably decent condition for about $500. But there appears to be a bit of chipped paint and corrosion on the fan casing (see attached pic) and I am wondering how difficult it is to remove and repaint or how expensive it is to replace?

Or am I just being too picky to begin with? I'm sure that it does not affect the overall performance.

Also meant to ask: the erg shows about 835km of use on the odometer. How does this rate for 6-7 year old erg? Low use? Moderate use? (pretty sure it is not heavy use)

I would snap that one up quick.

Low miles (KM)

Should be easy to take off and paint with a rattle can

One of my C2s' has similiar chipped paint...I just left it like it is. Doesnt make any difference to the drag factor.

I'd buy it in a hot minute too.

If you want, you can pop off the screws on the side of the flywheel and take off the outer gray cover, then there are four screws that connect the black screen to the inner gray cover.

Remove those screws, pop off the black screen and sand/paint it, then toss it all back on. Should be easy. If you have any questions call C2. They are as helpful as can be.

Good luck.

Thanks for all the great advice, it helped alleviate any doubt that I had. Picked it up for $470 USD and it fit easily into the back of my car.

It already looks at home in my modest (but growing) home gym and I can't wait to start incorporating it into the WODs I do at home.

My "Wish List" is now down to:
a) 20# Dynamax ball
b) 1 and 1.5 pood KBs
c) plyo box (will build using Lincoln's plans)
d) proper lifting platform (will build as well)

Thanks again,
Sam

Sorry, just thought of another question for those with Model Cs:

Is the new ergonomic handle worth the $20 upgrade? I have only rowed with the original handle and was considering replacing it with the new one if it makes any difference. Also thinking of upgrading to the PM3 at some point in the future.

Just to answer my own question with regards to the new "D" handle, I found the following info on the Concept 2 site (w/f safe):

http://www.c2forum.com/viewtopic.php?t=795&highlight=handle+replacement

Overall, a search of the C2 site revealed some mixed reviews of the new handle: some liked it, others did not. No clear consensus was evident to me.
