Re: New start, new log.

01/06/13 - happy birthday to me!

3.5 hours of snowboarding, good conditions. Supposed to snow today, but it's holding off so far.

Re: New start, new log.

Today's post-Workout: Shoveling the parking lot at Big Bear Crossfit, along with the coach and one of the other guys who braved the snow and hit the 6 am class. The WOD there was FGB, but I opted to do my strength work instead, as I don't think FGB counts as 'short, heavy metcon'.

post-post-Workout: 3 hours snowboarding, did Bear Mountain instead of Snow Summit for a change, and tried a few things I haven't tried in a while, wrecked myself off one jump I underestimated, but all in all, a good day!

Re: New start, new log.

01/10/13 - rest day
01/11/13 - extra rest day, because of a funeral
01/12/13
Warmup: Burgener w/u x2
Bench press: 10x45, 5x65, 3x95, 1x135, 1x185, 1x205, 3x1x240!
Squat: 10x45, 5x135, 3x185, 1x225, 1x275, 3x1x325!
Weighted dips 75#: 8-10
DB Rows 90#: 8-8
Sled push/pull 15m each way w/275#: 5x up and back
BB 2-hand waiter carry 40m: 45, 65, 95, 115, 135

New PR on the singles for Bench and Squat! So this week, 10# PR on deadlift, 5# PR on bench, and 10# PR on Squat.

The sled push/pull was shorter distance than usual due to the body pump class overflowing onto my astroturf strip, so I went up in weight instead. Much better traction with my running shoes than with the Vans that I lift in.

Re: New start, new log.

Stephen, I must confess, you're success has got me thinking about hitting a pure strength program, when ski touring season ends in the spring. Congratulations on the PRs.

Re: New start, new log.

You should give it a try, I bet you'll be pleasantly surprised. The strength program and my snowboarding don't seem to be interfering with each other, but of course, you're skiing on a whole different level, whereas I'm just hacking around for fun. You have plenty of opportunity to hurt yourself skiing at a competitive level, no need to exacerbate it by overtaxing major muscle groups

01/13/13 - Snowboarding for 3 hours, mostly rode the easy runs at Summit, working on transitioning between regular and goofy, and riding the entire run goofy a couple times, trying to fill in some holes in my skill set. Rewarded myself with run bombing run down the wall for fun

Re: New start, new log.

Ha! Not at another level, but thanks for saying it. Those NASTAR silver medals are practically participation prizes. If I get better than a gold medal, I might think of it as another level, but I need some serious help to get there. Still, I am pushing myself to ski as powerfully as I can through a rutted race course, so there is some injury potential. I will keep my heavy day well away from race day. The real issue in weight lifting progress is trying to work in some longer-duration conditioning with the weight lifting, as my ski touring speed is probably my weakest link. Once I'm past the touring season, I may give up some of my conditioning to get in a decent cycle with the heavy stuff. I just need to commit to putting in my active time in the gym, just as the days get nice.
