Wood Flooring for Platform

I was wondering if anyone has tried using 3/4 inch wood flooring as the middle insert in a platform. Or maybe you could get 1/4 inch and screw it on to 1/2 inch plywood; or 1/2 inch flooring and 1/4 inch plywood. I thought about this yesterday when I saw some pretty cheap prices for wood flooring on craigslist. It would look pretty damn sweet to have a "pro" look.
