Ball Slam substitution

Searched the forums- didn't find anything.

Anyone know of a comparable substitution for a ball slam (@ 20#)?

Much appreciated.

Re: Ball Slam substitution

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but...

Maybe sledge hammer swings. A suitable 10-12lb sledge costs around $20 as long as you don't go too fancy. A used tire is often free from dealers since they're trash. You can take a good sized car/truck tire and and bury it upright about halfway, or use a large earthmover tire just laying on it's side. The idea is pretty simple: beat the snot out of it with the sledge hammer. The local HS football field near me has big tires on their practice field, I've pummeling them for months.

Re: Ball Slam substitution

If you're talking about buying a hammer for $20, you could just as easily make a slam ball. You can pick up an old basketball from Salvation Army, or check around your neighborhood if anyone has one that's old. You might be able to beg one for free. If you are hurting for money, you could even fill it with dirt instead of sand. Glue the fill-hole shut with whatever glue you have handy (glue-gun or Shoe-Goo will work). Cover the thing in duct tape and slam away. You might be able to get the whole project done for $0 if you really look around. If you need more directions, do a search. There are many threads on here about making your own slam ball out of basketballs.

Re: Ball Slam substitution

Although you won't then have something you can use when a sledgehammer is needed (admittedly for most of us that isn't often).

Re: Ball Slam substitution

I do need the sledge from time to time. The real payoff is the looks I get from the soccer families at the local HS when I beat the crap out of a giant tire for no apparent reason.

that is awesome. They probably just think you are some rage-aholic in need of venting some frustration
