York Globe DB
On my monthly stroll through Play-it-Again Sports today, I found a single 100 lb York globe dumbbell - the really old-school strongman type. Selling for $70, with significant rust. I'm thinking of picking it up, mostly for badass appeal.
Has anyone ever seen one of these for sale? Is $70 a decent deal? Anyone have luck taking rust of such an old piece of equipment? |

Re: York Globe DB
So I picked it up for a total of $74.55, and while I love it, I can't help thinking about all of the equipment I could buy for a even a portion of the selling price on eBay.

Re: York Globe DB
My suggestion for what it's worth - if you want to sell it, don't do anything to it. See what someone will pay for it - it may be that they would pay more in its untouched state. If you get any inquiries, you can always talk to them about whether or not to try any restoration. You can make a judgement on whether or not to listen to what they say.
If you want to keep it, and don't like its appearance, take a wire brush to the rust. Use some rust converter also if you want to paint it - maybe the black paint for iron stoves (ask at a shop specialising in paint, not something like a Home Depot, what they would recommend). Oh, and don't spend the proceeds of selling the dumbbell before you actually get them! |

Re: York Globe DB
That's bad as H***! As cool as it is I would have to sell it and load up on equipment too though.
I'll start the bidding at $25 and you pay shipping to canada. LOL Good luck with the sale, do I smell a C2 in the works? Glisson |

Re: York Globe DB
A very generous offer, Doug, I'll keep that mind, though I'm pretty sure I'm holding on to this one... I spoke to the seller on eBay asking $3400 for the pair, and he said his best offer so far was $800 for both. He's just hoping to find that perfect buyer, I think.
