Re: The Wolverines Log

Tuesday, 08.23.11
Always hate taking a few days off cause then I come back several notches lower than when I left. Brutal. Hopefully I'll be up to snuff by Saskatoon.

Front Squat
50x5, 70x3, 90x3, 100x3, 110x2, 120x1, 130(f)

Brutal. 130kg is about 20 pounds off my PR as well. PR is 295 on that one. 130 is only 276. I suppose that's what happens when you don't front squat for a month or two.

3 rounds for time of
10 Thruster, 135lb
10 C2B Pullup
10 Burpee

7:19

Again... no gas. Stood over the bar a lot. I could see someone easily go sub 5 on this.

Chalk it up to a rusty day back I guess. Spent some time fooling around and having good conversation at a water resort with some friends for the evening; that made up for the tough day in the gym.

And ya Jason, that'll be sweet to meet you in person. Looking forward to seeing how CFFB has prepped you. Although I guess your doing OPT now.

Re: The Wolverines Log

Wednesday, 08.24.11
Tired again today but getting better though. I just want to crawl in a dark quiet hole and sleep for a month.

Snatch
60x3, 70x2, 75x2, 80x1, 85x1, 90f

Wasn't wanting to Snatch today but it was a large class today so I went with it to be cooperative. No problem getting under 90, just missed it out front so it's encouraging to know I haven't lost anything in that department.

OHS
60x3, 80x2, 90x2, 100x1, 105f,1 (PR)

Missed it behind first rep. Nailed it on the second. Happy with a PR on that. May have been able to hit 110 but didn't due to time.

Reverse Plank Hold: 3x1min on 30s off.

Back Squat LB
60x5, 100x1, 140x1

An that's the day. Rest tomorrow. Hopefully pistons will start firing again soon and I'm ready to go at Saskatoon.

Ha ha thanks. Improvement is coming slow these days.

Back Squat LB
60x4, 100x4, 140x1, 150x1, 160x1, 165f

Brutal. 160kg felt really good and I was sure I had a PR in me today. Oh well.

Press
40x5, 50x3, 60x3, 65x3, 70x3, 72.5x2

72.5kg would have also been a PR for press for a triple. Third rep got stuck right at my forehead and just hovered for a while mocking my weakness.

The Bear
7 reps without dropping the bar of:
Power Clean
Front Squat
Push Press
Back Squat
Push Press

50, 55, 60, 65kg (PR) by default

Never done the barbell bear complex before. Done it with dumbbells whenever it's come up on mainsite. I think the DB bear is only 5 reps each though. Definitely brutal. If I wasn't so tired already I may have tried 70kg. I'm starting to really understand how training is consistent long term commitment. Getting strong specifically is actually pretty hard and it's built slowly. I no longer see weekly PR's or sometimes even monthly. Makes my respect for guys like Rob Orlando even higher; although legitimately some guys do gain muscle mass easier than others there's no denying he's worked his arse off.

Cannot... type... Wow. Shift key.. so... hard... to press...

Front Squats
60x5, 100x3, 110x3,x3,x3, 115x3,x3(PR)

Going Jay Rhodes volume style for a while.

3 Rounds for time
15 C2B Pullups
10 HPC, 70kg
5 Thruster, 70kg

8:00

Could have pushed it harder first two rounds. Last round was awesome. Figured out if I changed how I used my hips on C2B's and I can suddenly do twice as many. Forearms exploded so I finished off with

210m Farmers carry, 70# KB each hand. Only dropped it once for about 20s or so. Feeling is coming back to my fingers now.

Double unders are coming back. They curiously disappeared for about a week. Now I can string about 10 occasionally.

Ha ha, you do!

I also just read an interview with Pat Barber where he says he started approaching heavy days differently and it changed everything. Instead of working up to a max set he started doing sets across and that led to way more time under a heavy bar. I noticed you do the same thing and it works for you as well so I'm gonna give it a shot.

Box Squat (HBBS)
60x5, 100x3, 120x3,x3,x3,x3,x3

Last set was getting hard to pop off the box. Hopefully this is going to really help in the bottom position. One effect of all this squatting is I sure don't have to warmup anymore. 2 sets and I can just go for it.

Weighted Ring Dips
50x5, 85x2, 95x2, 105x2, 115x2 (PR)

Pumped, last rep on the double was a real fighter. But I locked it.

Hollow Rocks (rocking back and forth in hollow position)
2x20

Wanted to hit some short conditioning yet or do some snatch pulls or something but just didn't have the time. It's now several hours after the fact and I haven't stretched yet... Busy day. But I felt on today. Doubles are coming back nicely; I'm really transitioning well into a smaller faster hop now a la Spealler style.
