Hazing on rubber floor mats

i recently started working out at Olympic lifting gym / strength and conditioning gym. their mats have this "white haze" for lack of better description, on edges of mats, where they butt against the other mats. primarily around the perimeter of mats. it look like salt stains to me. the gym is in north forida. so it can be very humid. i believe the rubber mats are from the rubberman. and they have tried cleaning them.

good new is they are getting new mats.

question are any experience with this? what causes this? and how does one prevent this from happening again??
