I had this idea a while ago but haven't implemented it--wanted to run it by you all before I buy the stuff.

My front porch has some exposed joists, so I thought about screwing some lag eye screws into the joists, then getting a heavy-duty pipe and hanging it with some rope from the screws, but I'm not sure how well I could kip with that. Another idea is using two points of support instead of one; i.e., instead of the rope hanging straight down, it'd make a V-shape with the bar at the bottom of the V.

I apologize in advance if this question has already been raised or is too basic to even mention, but I couldn't find much on this through the search function. Thanks!

Here is how I did it. You would have to modify how you attach the vertical pipe to the joist. Mine was solid, then I added the V cables and now its bombproof.

If I understand correctly the bar would be hanging from the rope, almost like a trapeeze, correct? If so, you're going to find kipping on this to be more difficult than on a rigid bar.

If you want to kip, use pipe and make a rigid bar.

I would like to make a rigid bar, but I'm in a rental place right now and won't be here too terribly much longer (neither will my roommate).

I think I'm just going to make a pair of rings for now and use those.

Thanks for the input, guys!
