back of the knee just above the top above the calf

Discomfort on the back of the leg just below the back of the knee cap and above the top of the calf.

I tore a ligament on the outside of my ankle from a violent landing new years eve. Slight discomfort ever since on the back of the knee. I didn't think to ask the ortho about it last time.

Thoughts ?

It only comes when I press on it or drape my leg over the arm of my chair and let the arm come into contact and put pressure on that area.

I would check to make sure there isn't a fracture at the fibular head. You describe the pain as being more in the back of the knee rather than the side like I would expect, that it was jumps out at me. Bad lateral ankle sprains can occasionally lead to a fracture up high at the knee... Probably the biggest problem is we don't think about it because it is not in the place that we consider to be "injured."

I'd suspect possible tight popliteus (or potentially a nerve issue there) before I would suspect a fibular head fracture.

Is it a muscle that's tight that's causing the issue?

If so, you can put your leg crossed over the other and use your hands to do some soft tissue mobilization.

PCL injury, heck could even be ACL.

Just my guess. Injuries suck, going through one myself. Best of luck.

What the hell I'll throw out medial meniscus, now you have to get it checked out.
