Who is getting Injured?

I am just curious for those that have Crossfit related injuries if you train with an affiliate or are you self training.

I am trying to gather some statictics for a project I am working on.

Thanks for you replies.

Re: Who is getting Injured?

I just ripped two HUGE blisters off doing Cindy, but for the most part I haven't been injured doing CrossFit. I work out primarily on my own.

Re: Who is getting Injured?

Justin,

I work out at home and have never gotten injured unless you want to count a few rips now and then. On the other hand, I play soccer, both pickup and league and regularly get injuries. Mind you, not from running but from some *** hole coming in too hard on a tackle. I really should give up soccer and do my nice safe Crossfit.

Re: Who is getting Injured?

I dislocated an elbow doing an L-sit, was my own fault due to locking my elbows out rather than properly supporting my weight, and my elbows naturally hyperextend. I normally work out alone, but this happened at my local affiliate's 'Saturday crossfit in the park'.

Re: Who is getting Injured?

interesting, I wonder if those of us who work out alone tend to get hurt less because we are worried about getting hurt and so really focus on our form?

I am sure that it slows down some of my times, but I don't want to hurt myself alone!

(that is NOT to say that a good trainer doesn't focus on form, but I think there is a tendency to not be as much of a stickler if you think someone else is keeping an eye on your for for you... but, that could just be me!!!!!!)

Re: Who is getting Injured?

I have numerous injuries, most are gone but some still plauge me. ALL of them i did prior to doing crossfit. Since doing crossfit i have not gotten any new injuries, although some havent gone away..

It band pain. Gone
Pulled left shoulder. Gone
tendonitis in left elbow. Gone
ac joint damage in right shoulder. Injured pre-crossfit, only hurts when i do ring dips.
Tweaked something in my lower back doing deadlifts a while back. Mostly painfree with a few exceptions. I've always had a somewhat painful lower back.

Re: Who is getting Injured?

I have gotten right elbow tendonitis. I want it to go away!!!

On the other hand, I believe CrossFit has helped my knee pain and lower back pain. Strengthening and proper form help.

Re: Who is getting Injured?

Worst Crossfit injury was slipping off the pullup bar and hitting a plyo-box with my shin. I nicked a tendon that caused a lot of pain in my foot for a while afterwards. This was at an affiliate. Other than that, just the normal pukie, pulls, strains and DOMS that everyone gets. I think CrossFit has helped with chronic shoulder pain I've had from being a swimmer growing up.

Weightlifting and weight lifting seem to be a lot more dangerous than CrossFit. This past year, one friend of mine severely dislocated his hip doing snatches under supervision of a national level coach and another friend of mine suffered compound fractures in both his tibia and fibia while doing one leg leg presses in a body building gym. I give him crap about doing leg presses, but when he has enough weight up there to snap his leg in two you can't say he wasn't working hard.

Re: Who is getting Injured?

Completely ruptured my pec major from my humerus. Actually was doing SS, but I know this was micro-trauma finally busting loose. Bad, Bad hurt. Have 3 anchors in my bone that'll take 12 months to fully heal. But it will be 100 percent.
