The curved sole ones force you to heel strike when you walk. Is that good?! And they don't advise working out in them.
'One thing I learned is that you can't just put on the shoes, start walking, and see results' ---Really?!? I liken these to the shake weight. Remember the SI column 'This week's sign of the Apocalypse' or whatever? |

Re: exercise by wearing shoes...
They are similar to the Masai Barefoot Technology shoes. The concept is solid for basic posture and lower back strengthening. However, you only see results if you are someone that is on their feet for extended periods of time.
My father walks 5 - 6 miles per day in his job. This shoe has helped with his lower back and with his posture. He has always walked and been active. He is no longer sore at the end of a long day. To an extent, these are a gimic for most people. You have to really walk a ton to get the benifit out of them. A normal walking day is not enough. |

No....
Unless you would like an easier time rolling your ankles. ![]() As for Masai's.... how about you just get some running flats.. pretty close to barefoot AND you can actually run in them too. Too many gimmicky products nowadays. And people buy them too argh. |

This seems like an awesome way to further destroy your gait to me... shoes that change your stride SO much, it stresses different muscles? Sign me up!
In all seriousness Vibrams for life :-D |

I think these things are gimmicky, but not completely unfounded. For someone doing a lot of standing or walking around -- and assuming that they don't shatter their ankles in the process -- I can see some benefit to something like this. Like little mini-bosu balls for your feet. Other than that, I don't see them doing much that proper mechanics and running form and/or moderate barefoot training can't accomplish too. |
