Okay... Did the WOD today, peeled off my top and got a whiff of ammonia. Thought I'd knocked over the windex I keep in the bathroom. But it was me.

This can't be normal... Or am I fretting over nothing?

Did you change your diet recently or eat something that's normally not part of your staple diet? My clothes smell like that if i put them in a plastic bag after training.

God this is embarassing!

The thing that scares me is that this wasn't body odor... In fact ammonia was the only scent I could distinguish.

I mean, I know what it's like when I'm just good and ripe- but not so today.

Could it be that this is just your weird near-Pukie experience? Some people get a metallic taste, some people get funky vision.

On the other hand, sweat does contain urea, and it's conceivable in the midst of hard-core sweat, you picked that up.

Kalen, I'm hoping you're right.

Actually though, I haven't eaten red meat in 19 years, and two days ago at a conference I had a lamb chop!!! Paul, you're onto something here.

The lamb chop was really tasty, but I guess not good for my ladylike scent after a good WOD.

That's the only difference in what I usually do!

Jamilia - you are not eating enough. I had the same issue when I was underweight for crew. After a really hard erg piece I would take off my sneakers and they would smell like amonia. After seeing the nutritionist - he basically told me I had to improve 1. the amount of caloric intake, 2. Increase certain things missing from said diet (ie. fruits, veggies, even more meat) etc.

I would advise that you go to see a dr or a nutritionist soon.

Jamila, while the small of ammonia after a hard training session is unpleasent(although i would take it over BO) its far from uncommon.
Hello My name is Fiona and i have smelt of ammonia!

Friday last week someone at karate(actaully it was after friday crossfit WO) had Od da Ammonia.

Ammonia is a posionous waste product derived from the breakdown of amino acids, usually it is removed via the urine, with tiny amounts in sweat, but sometimes if the concentrations are high enough, eating larger amounts of protein than you body is used to or needs is one, but not the only reason, the body takes a "short cut" and it dumps the ammonia via the sweat.

Chris is also right, not eating enough is another reason, but this is becase the body starts metabolising its own protein ie your muscles for energy.

My 2c If your calorie intake is sufficent, I think the pork chop may be our suspect, but if you have reduced your caloies to much i would think about adding more. Just MO

If you are dehydrated it will the sweat you have, will be more concentrated (strong smelling) as well.
