Why do *YOU* do CrossFit?

After just reading the T-nation rant posted in the "Fitness" section, I have a question for everyone. The question can be applied to anything; BB, Running, CF, etc.... but let's do it for CF.

Take all YOUR reasons for doing CrossFit, pick the top 3, and rank them in order of importance. No. 1 being the biggest reason, of course. Dig deep and really be honest if you reply to this post, let's see what we really care about. I know it's going to be hard to boil it down to 3, but let's do it.

My top three of many:

1. Long-term (ironically until death) health and fitness (GPP)
2. Husband/Wife "couples" activity time!
3. "Lookin' good naked" (I'll let you know if I ever get there!)

So I can crush my enemies, see them driven before me, and hear the lamentations of their women.

Re: Why do *YOU* do CrossFit?

1. To be strong.
2. To aid me in making something of my all-too-brief lifespan.
3. To not be one of those old people who need help getting onto the toilet.
(this is a particular fear of mine.)

Re: Why do *YOU* do CrossFit?

1. To be free of any and all injuries.
2. to be as stong/fast/best as possible in all circumstances.
3. to look good nekkid.

My real number 3 though is because i love to camaraderie and the like mindedness of the people who do crossfit.

1. Self-confidence not only in strength, but looking good as well.
2. Hanging with the cool people that share the same goal.
3. Health.

Re: Why do *YOU* do CrossFit?

Seeing as Conan's paraphrased Genghis Khan quote has already been said ( and the original was more than 3 )...

1. I was always shorter than the other kids and thus smaller, so being stronger was a good idea in general.

2. CrossFit is perfect for my attention span and love to do varied things. Maybe I will start working on DU again.

3. Rog did it, so I got to do it.

Jonathan, I have seen people get to that and totally agree. That was a tie for #3 as well.

Re: Why do *YOU* do CrossFit?

I think I have more than three.

1) I've always been thin and was quite physically active my entire life through college, but one day I realized I was planning on going skiing in a couple months but my body just wasn't up to the task of skiing all day long for a week and I needed to exercise and prepare for that trip. Similarly playing a pickup basketball or football game was no longer something I could do well at the drop of a hat. This was depressing and pathetic and shocking. I was used to having the GPP to do anything anytime, I no longer did, I wanted to regain that, and thats why I do crossfit.

2) Building on #1, my GPP always sucked. I may have been able to play an entire game of bball without needing to take a break on the bench, but I couldn't jump for ****, got pushed around under the basket, and could hardly run a mile outside of a game. I wanted to be far more athletic all around.

3) Lookin good nekkid ... and with tight clothes on.

4) Avoiding fragility with old age. I want to live a long time, and I want to really be LIVING throughout those years, not just barely holding on.

I guess I could sum it all up with 'to more enjoy all aspects of life, longer.'

Re: Why do *YOU* do CrossFit?

1. Keep myself sane - work tends to get pretty mentally taxing, CrossFit is a nice release. Also good GPP keeps some doors open for other lines of work.

2. Stay Healthy - seen parents and other old folks go from 'wellness' to 'sickness' in terms of physical health, and then get the **** medicated out of them. I don't want to end up on pill soup by the time I'm 50.

3. And of course, look good naked. We're all a little vain
