Starting For newcomers to the CrossFit methodology

I tried a couple WOD with little success, I was thinking of trying to do what the crossfit journal #9 recommened, deadlift, push press and squat. Should I be doing pushups, assisted pullups, ab work like situps? How should I start? Or would it be better to adjust the WOD so I can do what I can, change weights/reps? I appreciate any help. :happy:

First welcome to the board and CrossFit! Have you read the getting started section on the front page? If you are having trouble scaling the WOD we are posting scaled versions here.
Welcome, let us know if you have any questions, and post your subs and times on the front page.

On days when pushups and pullups aren't in the WOD, should I "grease the groove" or whatever it's called. If so do I need to have an off day in bewteen to let the muscle rebuild or just do it everyday? Thanks Jeff and Frank for the replies.

I just started Crossfit and i'm nowhere near the WOD's but I am able to increase each time.

For Barbara for example I just do as many pushups, pullups, situps, squats as I can until failure and then rest up for the next round. So far I have not made it past round three without collapsing. Although today I felt I could have done one more round. Next time i'm gonna try.

The looks I get are pretty funny. Especially when i'm laying there trying to stop panting and ward off puking.
