Does Frankl lift raw, and is Frankl a 90? I thought he moved up.

he pretty much came out of no where last year, but he totalled 1850 in the USAPL at 198 at a meet in January with nothing but a belt this year.

Well, he squatted 1055 lbs for the all-time record at 198 lbs (yes, in full gear). He also benched 850 lbs at 198 and had a 2,630 lbs total at 198 lbs... All of those are all-time records. Say what you want about gear, but Frankl didn't get 800 lbs out of it... My point being if this other fellow donned all of the gear in the world I seriously doubt he could ever match that total. I have seen Frankl warming-up to bench in his shirt and doing a raw 545 lbs like it was AIR. The guy was the freak of freaks.

Oh, and he is bodybuilding these days. Hasn't competed in PL in some time.

Mike T only finished 3rd in his weight class at world's last year. He might beat any US lifter (honestly, I don't know) but at this point he can't really claim the top spot in the world at 120.

Videos of each respective performance:
Norris

Frankl
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Exg4E8N7Xls

Some of my observations:
1. Squat depth is obviously quite different. There is also a walkout in one contest versus a monolift in the other.
2. Frankl's squat is 305 lbs heavier than his deadlift (both geared). That says to me he's getting at least that much out of his squat suit/wraps/depth (probably more). Not many 198's can squat (to depth) more than they deadlift. At the last IPF raw world's, only 1 out of 21 lifters in the 93kg class squatted more than they deadlifted. One other squatted the same amount. The rest all deadlifted more.
3. Frankl obviously benches much more even factoring in equipment/pause/setup differences and I expect he'd have a better raw bench.
4. Their final deadlifts were the same. Norris was raw and almost certainly using a stiffer bar.
5. If Norris' contest was an actual USAPL, why was it in pounds? I'm pretty sure those aren't competition plates he was using.

Overall, I'd expect their raw totals to be fairly close.

Edit to add: both are amazing performances. But that should really be obvious and not need to be said.

He's also lost quite a bit on all his lifts over the past year. He's down about 100 lbs or so on both the Squat and DL and down about 40 lbs on the Bench.

Especially since he left the Air Force, he's been travelling a lot and training somewhat sporadically.

Just wanted to point out what a joke SPF (squat partially federation) squats are....what is Frankl's best squat with real judging?

To be honest, we have no idea what Frankl would of benched in competition Raw, with IPF judging/rules and no multiply gear. We can guess, but the strength curve is completely different. We don't really know. Would it of been better than Norris, probably - but also consider . . . Norris is drug free.

Also - I didn't know I was pitting Norris against hypothetical situations he would never compete against. Frankl never competed raw, weighs more than 198, and apparently is a bodybuilder now.

If that is the case, forget Norris - I am taking Ed Coan before his lifetime ban from the IPF.
