Zuffa buys Strikeforce

How do you guys feel about that?

Business as usual, until the existing contracts run out. I can't see them not merging once the contracts expire, and I'm sure we'll start to see things go on that direction in the next 6 months.

I don't know if I care or not. I'm not anti Zuffa, but I do think a fighters union needs to happen, especially now.

I wish Ariel Helwani would ask the Dana his thoughts on the NFL and CBA fiasco.

I was just going to post this. I think its a good thing and also feel that once contracts start to expire there will be a merger.

I hear you in some respects, but don't you think the NFLPA is a good idea? I mean, the NFL owners would rape these guys if they could.

Maybe, maybe not... You could say that of any employer, and in the 1800s and post-depression era they did, but these days?

Re: Zuffa buys Strikeforce

Josh Gross reported over the weekend that we should expect a WEC-style merger to happen once contracts expire. Some things are already changing, though - Strikeforce announced they are adopting the Unified Rules, so there will be elbows on the ground from here on out. Dana White also said UFC won't be doing anymore counter-programming against Strikeforce shows and is open to the idea of the Heavyweight GP being a PPV. Should be some interesting stuff happening. Not to mention Zuffa now owns one hell of a library when it comes to this sport.

What REALLY needs to happen is kicks on the ground.

Won't happen. Best bet is to hope for better judging criteria.

Back on topic....They ran a Strikeforce ad at 128. It's just weird, but eventually it'll sink in.

It's all just a buildup the the UFC Network. 2 years I'd guess.

it's a bad thing imo... pride died the same way... ufc is building a monopolyposition... and that's just bad for the sport...

It can be seen as a good thing though; More organisations lends less credibility to there being an "undisputed" champ. Either less organisations, or having fighters compete in other organisations to legitimize the whole thing of being the best in the world is a good thing, in my books. It would be hard to take the sport seriously if there were too many organisations, each with their own champions.
