Re: level 1 exam

I just took the test this weekend - it is multiple choice, 50 questions. According to the cert staff, they're averaging an 80% pass rate. If you do fail, you can retake it for $150.

Re: level 1 exam

How did you prepare? I've read the entire student guide and am planning to go back through it. I'm also taking the test at the cert we're hosting so I'll be sitting through the entire thing.

Re: level 1 exam

My rub with this whole deal is that people who have already attended level 1's are at a disadvantage when they show up for the 'test only', versus those who are taking it as part of their course. I bet if they broke down the 80% pass rate that we would find that the majority of the failures are 'test only' folks. Now, I know I can study, and I plan to study and be prepared, and it is stuff that I should know in and out anyway. BUT, my buddy did his level 1 after they added the test and he said during the instruction there were a lot of information peices that came with a foot stomp, or a wink wink, or a raised voice, or a "you might want to write this down"... you get the idea. I won't have the opportunity to sit in on the whole course, as well as many others of you I am sure, which puts us at a disadvantage, period.

I found the Level 1 Guide mostly unhelpful for the test. Most of the material came from my memory of my cert and the various lectures (on programming, nutrition, what is fitness are the ones that stick out as most helpful, but the questions came from everywhere). If you are sitting through all the lectures you'll be fine. I had my L1 in December 09 and took the test in April 10, so a lot of it was still pretty fresh for me, and most of it was pretty common sense from my knowledge of CrossFit principles.

I definitely agree that folks who have just sat through the cert have a significant advantage over the test only crowd. The folks who are at the cert should have a pass rate damn near 100%.

It would be interesting to know if that 80% figure came from folks who have just been inundated with CrossFit doctrine for 2 days or folks who have attended a L1 in the past. I suspect it's the latter.

Re: level 1 exam

Hey Casey,

Let us know how your test goes? I would like to go take my L1 test soon but I don't want to blow it and have to pay for the re-test.
