fat doesn't make you fat?

Subscribed to the journal and watched some of Coach's videos on nutrition. He says fat doesn't make you fat carbs do. So does this mean that I shouldn't care how much fat im getting and instead focus on how many carbs im eating. If so i should probably drink whole milk instead of 2% because im trying to gain weight.

Some one please break this down a little bit further for me. Educate me please.

Educate yourself my brother!

If you search these nutrition forums you will find most follow a lower carb, higher fat diet.

If you are looking to gain, then by all means, eat a ton. You should drink whole milk instead of any percent because its less messed with. Raw is even better if you can get it.

As long as you are getting good fat, don't stress about it.

In short...eat meat and vegetables, nuts, some fruit, little starch and no sugar. or something like that.

Go to robb wolf's blog (mostly WFS some language on occasion IIRC) and read. also Mark's Daily Apple (wfs) is a good place - check out the definitive guides in particular.

Re: fat doesn't make you fat?

"Fat doesn't make you fat" doesn't mean you can eat as much as you want. Eating 5000 calories a day of mostly fat calories will still probably make you fat. If you do some more reading around you can find a more in-depth answer, but the Cliff Notes answer is that excess carb consumption leads to chronically elevated insulin levels, which encourages your body to store excess carbs as bodyfat and prevents your body from tapping into stored bodyfat and burning it as fuel. Fat loss and muscle building is affected greatly by hormonal responses to food, not just by how many calories you intake.

Re: fat doesn't make you fat?

The paleo diet's percentages are roughly 19-35% protein, 22-40% carbs, and 28-47% fats. :-)

Re: fat doesn't make you fat?

i think Zone is more for your %..and Paleo would be your food choice etc.

Best way I've learned is to read the members blogs...a lot of people here have their own blogs, that are VERY informative. . .

The full one

Eat meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch and no sugar. Keep intake to levels that will support exercise but not body fat. Practice and train major lifts: Deadlift, clean, squat, presses, C&J, and snatch. Similarly, master the basics of gymnastics: pull-ups, dips, rope climb, push-ups, sit-ups, presses to handstand, pirouettes, flips, splits, and holds. Bike, run, swim, row, etc, hard and fast. Five or six days per week mix these elements in as many combinations and patterns as creativity will allow. Routine is the enemy. Keep workouts short and intense. Regularly learn and play new sports.
