Re: Oly Comp NYC 3/15!!!

I guess that makes sense. If you could lift in baggy clothes, it would be impossible for the judges to be sure about that stuff.

Re: Oly Comp NYC 3/15!!!

I'll be there. Can't wait to attend an Oly Competition again and get back into the thick of things. That's so cool there will be a competition as soon as I move up there. I'm hoping to compete again later in the year.

Yoon, who is running the event?

Please let me know if you need help with anything.

Hey Randy,
Glad the timing works out for you! The meet is being run by Chris Smith of Metropolitan Barbell Club out on Long Island. He's the local Metropolitan LWC President as well.

There will be a good number of local meets throughout the year:
April: The CT meet Sarena mentioned above.
May: The Rudy Sablo at LBH
June: Empire State Games qualifiers
July: Empire State Games (though if you're in NJ, it'll be the Garden State Games)
August: CT Open
September: NYC Open at LBH
October: Metropolitan Championships at LBH

Chris also runs small meets from time to time in his 'dungeon' gym out on Bethpage, LI usually during a month where there are no big meets scheduled.

I think everything's all set, but I'll let you know if any help is needed (you can never have enough people to help set up/tear down). Good luck with the relocation!

Re: Oly Comp NYC 3/15!!!

Great to see all this interest! Sad to say I won't be competing b/c I've been sick and not training.

Also, small point... technically, a two piece covering is allowed as long as your torso is covered. So you could put your under armour shirt over your spandex bike shorts and comply, I think, as long as no belly shows, and your elbows aren't covered, and the shorts don't cover your knees or touch any knee sleeves you might wear.

(I was browsing the USAW rules and read this under the heading costume. Don't ask.)

Re: Oly Comp NYC 3/15!!!

The two piece provision must be a relatively new rule, hadn't noticed that before. So thanks for catching that.

For singlets, the best source I've found by far is singlets.com (W/F safe). All colors are custom, variety of styles, low prices, fast service. I once called with a question abut sizing at 6pm on a Saturday, the owner answered the phone, I had the singlet with custom colors in my hand by Wednesday morning.

This one is $40:

Re: Oly Comp NYC 3/15!!! Eats

Just wanted to mention to anyone coming that there's not an awful lot in the way of good eats in the immediate area. There is, however, a great South American-style steakhouse about a 10 minutes walk east, on the opposite side of Queens Blvd called 'Mi Tio' (8908 Queens Boulevard; look for the green awning). I highly recommend the skirt steak -- huge portions of tender, flavorful, marinated goodness at a nice price.

Yeah, totally:

This was a successful lift, btw.

Whoops, it's actually west of LBH, not east.

If you really want to source singlets, check out this thread I started at Fortified Iron. It's now the 3rd google hit for "weightlifting singlets."

http://www.fortified-iron.com/forum/...howtopic=42278 - I think it's SFW, maybbe some cussin' somewhere in the thread.

Also, the meet is this Saturday! heads up! bump!
I won't be lifting, sadly.

The two piece rule surprised me a little. I had seen a couple women wearing what looked like shirts on top (all dark colors so hard to tell sometimes) at a couple meets, and saw some places where you could custom order your two pieces, as well.
Where are the cool one pieces with sleeves... where did they go?
