Partial calf tear

Tore my calf muscle yesterday and it looks like I will be out of the fight for a while. I was on a really good run too so I'm looking at

1)Good ideas for rehab

2)How to maintain strength without pushing that calf before its ready

Thanks!

Re: Partial calf tear

I'm not a doc or a PT, but I have been victimized by that very problem. My approach was compression via an ace wrap or calf sleeve all day for a week or two following the injury. Serious rest for a couple of weeks as well. Then I started working on it gently with heat and a foam roller and then a lacrosse ball most evenings. I also went to get a few hour long massages where I had the therapist work on my calves and hamstrings only. That helped bring me back much faster when I just tried to work around it and tolerate the pain.

Re: Partial calf tear

Thanks! I've been doing the ice/heat bit since it happened. I'm working on passive ROM at the moment.

Good thing I like to swim.
