Marijuana effects on the body

I imagine this will be a hot button subject, but are there any unbiased researches on the subject? Long term effects on the body, short term effects. There's enough people on both sides of the fences claiming it is/it's not a great idea, so if it's possible I would be very interested in just the biological effects.

Anybody know of any reports?

I've heard super heavies use it a PED for it's affects on appetite, stress reduction and improved sleep. THis is third hand information, I haven;t met anyone who does this, but I don't ask either.

I can't imagine that inhaling smoke of any kind could actually be good for your long term health. We're probably talking about "how bad is it?"

Re: Marijuana effects on the body

smoke raises a great point, there are alternatives, but I don't want to nit pick.

As I see it..

Pros
-energy burst
-focus
- "in tune" feeling with the body
- Ability to push past pain

Cons
- lack of pain = lack of input to tell you when to much is to much
- distractions when not activity engaged in the workout
- dependence on PEDs limits ability to have confidence in the workouts when not on them
- Inability to keep track of time in circuit workouts

Overall, the cons outweigh the pros for me, but it seems like a psychological hindering over a physical one, and I'm more than a little curious about what the physiological effects are;

the day of
the day after
the long term.

Wait a second? Are you asking about working out *while* high? Idiotic, IMO. If losing focus in that way is even remotely safe, your workout's too easy.

Re: Marijuana effects on the body

I am asking if there is any science on the effects on your body

during a workout
after
the day after
the week

and so on...

For instance, take the average crossfitter. If they smoke during the workout, are they going to be able to perform "physically" the same?

What if on a offday. Will their next workout the day after be on par?

the next week?

It's going to be hard, I'm not trying to build a case. I am just very curious about short and long term effects on the body, and I am unable to find any actual science on it, if it exists.

I would like to thank you Katherine actually. Like I posted above I don't during workouts for fear of getting hurt, but I certainly feel like I *could* during most workouts.

That certainly does seem like it's a sign to step it up over all.

I'm confused. If I'm in tune with my body, but unaware of pain?

Sounds sort of wrong.

And FOCUS? Maybe this works for you, but I don't think there's a lot of research to support the hypothesis that pot increases one's focus.

Re: Marijuana effects on the body

Brian,

It doesn't increase focus, but in small dose (which is individual dependent), it can improve focus on the task at hand if other thoughts, usually from nervousness, block it out.

Example, if you are competing at a high level, the nervousness, expectations, whats riding on the competition, your fight with your significant other and a thousand other things can go through your mind. If pot relaxes you so you can ignore or block out those other things, it will increase you ability to focus on what you are doing even as it reduces total concentration.
