Does this ever come up in the WOD. Coach had said to look at the exercises here; http://www.exrx.net/Lists/PowerExercises.html;

and learn and master all of them. Just curious if we ever do them?

Jeff,

Don't know if clapping push-ups have ever come up on the WOD (I haven't seen them in the 5 months I've been here), but if you want a nice twist to the standard clapping push-ups shown at the site you referenced, you might try clapping behind your back (above your back if in the push-up position). That adds a nice wrinkle to an already-challenging exercise: the push-up.

We did this variation of the clapping push-up a couple weeks ago as conditioning at the end of gymnastics class, just for fun. The key, as I see it, is to not cheat and keep a tight upper-body position (almost hollow, definitely not arched) while performing the behind-the-back clap.

Of course, if you really want to see results, I'd suggest doing the progression for push-ups that Coach outlined in one of the previous CFJs (I can't recall which one). Basically, it goes from standard push-up to handstand push-up against a wall to handstand push-up without assistance, if memory serves.

In capoeira we do cartwheels and while in a handstand do a clap....pretty fun!
