Re: Future of Crossfit gyms
So, all joking aside, it seems a bit like he was saying there is a market for crossfit-friendly globo gyms, or at least a gym with more squat racks than lat pull down machines. That dosen't seem that absurd. As far as it being the future of crossfit...

Re: Future of Crossfit gyms
Open Gym.....hmmmm....what would that be like....cue music....and thought bubble...
Equipment laying out everywhere. 3 people doing fran so they're running back and forth acrossed the gym from the weights to the pullup bar. 1 guy doing helen so he keeps running out the front door. 1 guy doing nancy almost running into the guy doing helen. 4 people swinging kettlebells so you have to watch yourself everywhere you walk. 3 people doing wallballs next to three other people trying to do handstand pushups. 2 poor souls trying to concentrate on their oly lifts amidst the ruckus. 2 people trying muscle ups swinging around like mad. a couple folks doing grace trying to keep their bars from bouncing into the other 30 people. stuff generally covered in sweat, snot, and puke. and more dangerous to walk through than the aisle the forklift is on at home depot. |

Re: Future of Crossfit gyms
I don't know about the future of Crossfit specifically though I think it will continue to expand as a brand and more and more affiliates will open up worldwide. However, I do think most "globogyms" will transform in the upcoming years to accomodate more Crossfit-esque fitness programs.
Most current trendy fitness programs all incorporate weightlifting, bodyweight exercises, kettlebells, sprints, and metcon-type workouts. Most of the trainers at my old gym had people doing box jumps, using TRX straps (overpriced and less usable rings), doing burpess, etc... Personally, for someone like me, who prefers strength training coupled with metcon-style workouts, an open gym would be perfect. I could go in, do my lifts, and finish up with a Fran or Helen or Tabata This or something. |
