How are you cutting carb intake?

Hi,
I'm trying to cut my carb intake because I want to lean out. I'm happy with my weight, but I could use less fat around the abdominal area and arms.

I am 5'2 and weigh about 107#. I do CF 3 times a week(strength skill plus short met-con WOD), and run 5x a week( less than 4 miles each time). It's so hard for me to stay below 50g of carbs because I can't control my sugar intake. I love fruit, and I tend to over indulge in them when I have double workout days.

What are you guys doing to lean out? More veggies? Which fruit should I stick with and which fruit should I cut out completely. I've been doing paleo for awhile now with cheats here and there. However, my new challenge is to go paleo for 30 days and low carb.

Any advice of input would be great!

You can make vegetables taste really good. But yeah, I would say eat more vegetables, less fruit. Fruits shouldn't be tropical.

I actually never had an issue eating 200g of carbs and staying lean.

Here is the root of the problem. Some people say "it is hard for me to control my sugar intake". But you have jumped that and committed to "I can't". A mental shift will have to take place because I am certain you can do anything.

With that said, Jamie is on it with the sleep. Cortisol levels will have a play in it, but getting down to a low BF% is a very personal matter. What is your BF% right now?

Re: How are you cutting carb intake?

IMO, staying below 50g of carbs is not a great idea if you're interested in performance. Some people can do it, but the more you're doing the less wise it is. Eating plenty of fruit on double workout days actually seems like a pretty smart idea to me.

If all your carbs are coming from fruits and vegetables, then IMO you're already doing everything reasonable. (An opinion which is not universally held, as I'm sure some responders to this post will tell you.)

Something to look at is your overall food intake. If you're not eating enough overall, your body will be pretty insistent about its need for more food.

If you feel like you can't control your sugar you may be eating too much high GI fruit, i.e. sugar. I would cut these out if below 50g is your goal. Or you may be eating too little food in general. As far as which fruits are best, this is something you can really search. Stick with berries in general.

Re: How are you cutting carb intake?

My BF was 19% in April. I'm trying to get down to 15% if that's even possible.

On a double workout day, I'll eat approximately 1700 calories, with ~100g fat, ~100g carbs, ~100g protein(according to fit day). I am going to stick to low GI fruit such, and have it after 3. I guess my goal is to also stop the sugar craving in general, and eliminating fruit would do it.
